Virus scan your email

Most current anti-virus programs have the option to scan both your incoming and outgoing email. Remember to ensure this feature is enabled!

Also ensure your anti-virus subscription is up-to-date and you frequently download new virus signature files - most anti-virus software will do this automatically but we also recommend you do manual checks at least once a week!

When emailing multiple recipients

When you want to email multiple people on a single email - do not put all the people on the To: or cc: (carbon copy) lines of your email program.

Doing that would reveal all the recipents to each other - not good for privacy and it could leave you and the recipient more likely to receive spam!

The best option would be to address the email To: yourself and use Bcc: (blind carbon copy) to add the other recipients. This means you would receive a copy of the email sent but importantly all the people on the list will not be able to see each other!

Use plain text emails

Most email programs have the option of both plain text, enriched or HTML based email formats.
Of these 'plain text' results in the smallest emails and is the most compatible email format - although most email programs support HTML emails there are many that have this feature disabled or do not support it at all!

Plain text emails are especially recommended for use with mailing lists.
